The first week is a time to learn about each other. Your English Bulldog puppy is adjusting to a different home, people, and routine. Keep your plans flexible and focus on a calm welcome rather than trying to introduce everything immediately.
Before leaving the breeder
Ask for a walkthrough of the puppy’s current meals, rest, toilet routine, and familiar cues. Confirm the records you are receiving and store them together. Check the microchip information, the individual puppy’s registration status, and the written guarantee’s examination requirements.
At Beefy Blissful Bulldogs, puppies are never placed before eight weeks. They go home microchipped, with vaccination records, a veterinary health check, and a written health guarantee. Read the Health Guarantee and coordinate your own veterinary appointment before the handoff.
Day one: keep the welcome small
Show your puppy the prepared resting area and supervise access to the home. Give the puppy space to explore a manageable area without a crowd of visitors. Keep children involved through calm, adult-supervised interactions. Let existing pets retreat to their own spaces and introduce them with supervision.
Use the feeding guidance you received and ask your veterinarian before making dietary changes if you are unsure. Take notes about meals, toilet outings, and rest so household members can follow the same plan.
The first nights: plan for care
Agree in advance who will respond when the puppy needs attention or a toilet outing. Keep the sleeping area safe and comfortable. If you use a crate, build familiarity gently. A new puppy will not arrive understanding your household schedule, so leave room for adjustments.
A simple written log can be more helpful than guessing what happened earlier: record when the puppy ate, went outside, rested, and seemed unsettled. Share practical questions with your breeder as you learn what works.
Days two through seven: build consistency
Use short, gentle interactions to introduce household cues and routines. Reward the behavior you want and supervise closely. Make changes one at a time so you can see how your puppy responds. There is no need to meet every neighbor or visit every destination in the first week.
Ask your veterinarian about safe outings and contact with other dogs based on vaccination status and local disease risks. Bring the puppy’s records to the appointment and discuss the ongoing care schedule. Contact a veterinarian promptly about illness, injury, or concerning changes; breeder support does not replace medical care.
Keep expectations realistic
Your puppy may be confident in one situation and hesitant in another. Let comfort develop at the puppy’s pace. Give the household a shared plan for supervision, rest, and care instead of treating the first week as a test the puppy must pass.
